The Brymor Dairy processing operation of the Moore family at Masham is probably the most impressive of the Guernsey producer processors in that the business now uses all of the milk from the herd of 140 cows.

Robert and Diane Moore now run the business with Robert’s parents now trying to enjoy retirement, but are on hand to help out when necessary.

The main process is the making of a range of delicious Guernsey Ice Creams, but Clotted Cream is also available as is Veal from the bull calves. Unfortunately Brymor Dairy are no longer producing cheese.

A few years ago Robert and Diane installed two Lely Robots to milk the cows and this still requires a high degree of management. On average, the cows visit the machines between 2 and 3 times in the day as and when it suits them. If one of the machines develops a fault then Diane receives a call on her mobile to alert her and is normally able to quickly sort out the problem.

The ice cream is delivered to shops and hotels within a 80 mile radius and there is also a restaurant in the farm yard which caters for a constant stream of customers, many of whom are in Yorkshire to visit the towns that form the backdrop for so many of the popular television programmes. Recently Brymor have started producing Guernsey ice cream for the Mrs Beeton range sold by Tesco and this has led to a reinvestment in new machinery to cope with the extra volume of product needed.

If you are ever in the area, do make time to call in but allow enough time to first choose between the 28 luxurious ice creams and then to enjoy them.
